Hear a real chapter

One voice note becomes one chapter

Your parent talks for a few minutes. We write it up as a chapter, keep their words, and add an English version for the grandchildren.

Chapter 3

The neem tree in the courtyard

Our house in Bareilly had a neem tree right in the middle of the courtyard. In summer, once the sun went down, the whole mohalla came and sat under it. My father would bring out his radio and everyone listened to the cricket together.

My mother dried mangoes on the roof for pickle, and we children were told to guard them from the monkeys. We were very bad guards. Half the mangoes went into our stomachs.

    How it works

You set it up. Your parents just talk.

    1. You set it up in 10 minutes

Tell us about your parent, pick a few questions you've always wanted to ask, and send them the message we write for you.

    2. Your parent answers by voice on WhatsApp

Every Monday and Thursday they get one question. They reply with a voice note in Hindi, Hinglish or English. No typing.

    3. The family hears every story

Each chapter reaches the family on WhatsApp as it's written. After eight weeks, a hardcover book arrives with QR codes that play their voice.

    Questions

    What families ask us first

Will my parents trust a number they don't know?

They message us first. You forward them a short note from you, in Hindi, with a link. They tap it and send the message that opens. So the chat starts with them, because of you.

What if they don't talk much?

The first questions are easy ones, and we send gentle reminders. If WhatsApp isn't working for them, our editor can call them and record the story on a phone call instead. If they record fewer than 5 stories, you get a full refund.

    Who hears the stories?

Only the family members you add. Each chapter is a private link, and nothing is ever public.

What if a story is private?

They can say so in the voice note, or tell us after. That story stays out of the book and isn't shared with anyone.

    What happens to the recordings?

They are stored privately and used only to make your parents' chapters and book. You can ask us to delete them at any time.
